Special Events

In addition to the events that appear consistently on our calendar throughout the year, Reformation is home to other unique events that make us a presence in our community.  We welcome you to be a part of our active ministry!

CHURCH PICNIC

To begin the summer worship season every year, Reformation takes its message outside into the community by holding a service and picnic outdoors.  We follow worship with food and fellowship in this great change-of-pace event that allows us to connect with nature, our community and each other.  The Exeter Community Band occasionally provides a concert following lunch.

COMMUNITY BLOCK PARTY

Reformation took part in the ELCA annual “God’s Work. Our Hands. Sunday” by hosting a community block party. Starting in 2014, members and friends engage in an afternoon of activities featuring over 35 ministry and community organizational tents, first responders, health screenings, children’s activities, live music, food and service projects. A special worship service is held with a guest preacher, dozens of helium-filled balloons and hundreds of worshipers. Local fire department and police departments are invited to attend the service.

In particular, the third annual Reformation Lutheran “God’s Work. Our Hands.” Block Party on Sunday, September 11, 2016 was ushered in with an uplifting service of music, quilt blessing, and inspirational message from Associate of the Bishop, Rev John Richter. There were also members of the local fire department and police departments present as we honored First Responders on the 15th Anniversary of 9.11.01.

In 2016, we began hosting a Community Unity 5k, to raise money for First Responders. We continue to host a 5k, donating money to local organizations, including the Greater Reading Food Pantry.

EASTER MORNING BREAKFAST AND EGG HUNT

An annual Easter Breakfast is held between our Easter Sunday Services, followed by an Egg Hunt on the church lawn.  The Youth Group helps to prepare and serve the breakfast along with stuffing and hiding the hundreds of eggs.  It has become an exciting tradition that the children look forward to!

 PREPARE: AN ADVENT CELEBRATION

Advent is the beginning of the church year.  We begin the Advent season with an inter-generational event for congregation and friends.  The evening features a covered dish meal, crafts and service projects for all ages, and music and worship.  The construction of a live advent wreath for use at home is a highlight for many families.

MID-WEEK LENTEN DINNERS

Reformation Lutheran Church Lent Lenten dinner soup and salad
Every Wednesday throughout the Lenten season, we gather for a soup and salad dinner, followed by a short service and bible study.  The potluck dinner begins at 5:45 PM in the Parish Hall, and is prepared by members at home and brought to the church to share.  At 7:00, we move into the sanctuary for the Holden Evening Prayer service.  A bible study follows in the parlor.
