MUSIC AT REFORMATION

Reformation Lutheran Church singers singing choirAt Reformation, we love music. It is a part of everything we do here. Music helps us celebrate at weddings and baptisms, and music helps us mourn and cope with loss at funerals or times of sadness. Music helps to energize and music helps to soothe. Music helps express what words alone cannot, and music has the power to bring forth both memories and emotions. And most importantly at Reformation, music helps us to worship.

In fact, the single most unifying event in the lives of our congregation is the Sunday worship service. Regardless of where we are in our individual lives, we come together each week to share in Christ’s peace, hear His word, and respond to the Word in song.

Reformation Lutheran Church organ“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” (Colossians 3:16)

Young or old, rich or poor, male, female, sick, or healthy – it doesn’t matter. Music, just like the love of Christ, has the ability to touch us all freely and equally; and, in the case of our coming together each week for worship, to simultaneously impact us uniquely as individuals and singularly as a congregation. Just like the members of our congregation, our music is both old and new, familiar and unfamiliar, and of many styles and ethnic roots. Above all, our music unities us in one voice and is a physical reminder that all are welcome to participate in our community of faith.

GET INVOLVED

Reformation Lutheran Church singers singing choirAside from “singing your heart out” in church each Sunday, there are many ways to become involved in some of the special music we offer at Reformation. We welcome anyone with an open heart and mind to participate, regardless of whether or not you are a member of the church. Can’t commit for an entire year? That’s okay – we welcome seasonal participants as well!

Reformation Choir

This choir supports and enhances congregational song in weekly worship services, and provides special music for festival services and other important events throughout the church year. We rehearse weekly throughout the school year.  During the summer, we meet prior to service.

For adults and children, this handbell choir rings on a 3-octave set of Mallmark handbells that were newly-crafted in 2014. We ring in worship once a month and also rehearse secular music, which we perform in a yearly concert event. As individuals and as a group, the Handbell Choir also participates in local handbell concerts and festivals.  We rehearse Thursday evenings.

Children’s Music

The children’s choirs rehearse on Sunday mornings. They rehearse during Sunday School. Please contact Heidi Rochlin with any questions and with the age of your children.

Special Music

Special music is both an appropriate and desirable means of enhancing our worship experience or as an opportunity to bring our community together outside of regular worship time (ie for a concert or special event). If you or someone you know has musical talents that they are willing to offer to our congregation in the form of a one-time service, please contact our Director of Music, Heidi Rochlin.
