Education
Children and youth are invited to participate in fellowship and ministry events and programs throughout the year.
Sunday School
Sunday School meets at 9:30 each Sunday from September through the beginning of June. There is a preschool class for 3 and 4 year old children. Kindergarten through grade 4 uses a monthly rotation model to teach Bible stories through drama, movies and crafts. Grades 5 to 7 focus on Bible stories and connections to present day life experiences.
Confirmation Class is for grades 8 and 9 and is taught by Pastor Metzloff. Post confirmation teens meet to share breakfast and discussion. The Adult Sunday School class centers on the scripture readings heard in that morning’s worship.
Confirmation
Reformation has a two year confirmation program which usually begins in the 8th grade. The program gives students the opportunity to personally affirm his or her commitment to Jesus Christ, by saying “yes” to the promises made for them at baptism. Students are paired with a congregational mentor and encouraged to engage in monthly activities to discuss growing in faith.
First Communion
First Communion instruction will be offered to any child upon request of the parents. Please contact the pastor if you are interested.
Vacation Bible School
Reformation hosts a week-long Vacation Bible School each summer. The dates are usually at the end of July/early August, and ages 3 through grade 6 are invited to participate. There are fun songs, creative crafts, science exploration, exciting games, Bible stories, and tasty snacks. Most importantly, children will learn that no matter what extreme challenges may come their way in life, they will always have Jesus to guide their way. Students in grade seven through adult are invited to teach and help.
A Safe Place for Kids
At Reformation we want to keep children safe. We follow all applicable Child Protection Policies. All Sunday School classes and confirmation events are staffed by qualified adults, and all our volunteers and staff provide criminal background checks and child abuse clearances.
Resources
Wegman Memorial Library
Reformation Lutheran has a library with a wide variety of Christian books and videos for use. The library was dedicated in loving memory of Daniel Wegman, a long-time member of Reformation, on All Saints Sunday, 2007. There are also children’s books in the Nursery.
Devotional Resources
The Education Committee provides copies to The Lutheran magazine. Christ in Our Home, a daily devotional published quarterly by Augsburg Fortress, is also available in the narthex; seasonally other devotionals are made available.
Written and assembled by our own congregation members, the Reformation Advent and Lenten Devotionals are available in print in the church narthex at the start of the season and in the Library.
